Who is behind the site
The site is a project of Direktoriya.bg Ltd., the company behind the Directory.bg business directory.
The site is free and needs no registration. We do not sell data and we do not use advertising cookies. We count visits with Statcounter and Google Analytics only if you allow it in the cookie banner (see the Privacy policy).
How accurate is the time
The site's server synchronizes its clock with atomic clocks over NTP. When you open a page, your browser asks the server for the time five times, measures how long each answer takes and uses the fastest one. This keeps the clock on the page accurate to hundredths of a second, even if your device's clock is fast or slow, and the page tells you by how much.
Time zones and daylight saving time are calculated with the IANA tz database (2026e), the same database operating systems use. When a country changes its rules, the change goes into the database and from there into the site. The time on the page does not depend on outdated data in your browser: the server sends the offsets of every time zone on the page together with it.
Where the data comes from
- Places: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0 license): names, coordinates, elevation.
- Population: Wikidata (public domain, CC0): the latest census or official estimate, with its year. Where Wikidata has no such figure from 2010 or later, the figure is from GeoNames, without a year.
- Time zones: the IANA tz database (free, public domain).
- The time zone map: the boundaries from timezone-boundary-builder (ODbL license), made from OpenStreetMap data and simplified for the web; the offsets and the time come from the IANA database on our server.
- Public holidays: the python-holidays library (MIT license): public holidays in 247 countries and territories, plus half days, religious holidays and observances. Islamic holiday dates are calculated in advance and may shift by a day once the new moon is sighted.
- Sunrise, sunset, twilight and moon: astronomical calculations from the coordinates of each place (the SunCalc algorithms and Jean Meeus's "Astronomical Algorithms"). They are accurate to about a minute; in the mountains and near the poles the real sunrise can differ more.
- Stock exchanges: the trading calendars of exchange_calendars (Apache 2.0 license): trading hours, holidays and early closes of 68 exchanges; the Bulgarian Stock Exchange by the official public holidays in Bulgaria.
- Solar and lunar eclipses: calculated with Astronomy Engine by Don Cross (MIT license): the Besselian elements of each solar eclipse, from which the site works out the local times and how much of the Sun is covered at every place, and the times of the lunar eclipses. The times are accurate to a few seconds, like those published by NASA.
- Weather: Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0 license).
- The map on city pages: OpenFreeMap with data from OpenStreetMap (ODbL license), shown with MapLibre GL JS. Your browser loads it when you reach the map (see the Privacy policy).
- Your city on the home page: the GeoLite2 database by MaxMind, on our own server. Your IP address is not sent anywhere and is not stored. This product includes GeoLite2 data created by MaxMind, available from www.maxmind.com.
How often it is updated
- Time zones: with every new release of the IANA database.
- Places: from GeoNames a few times a year. Page addresses never change.
- Population: from Wikidata every month.
- Public holidays: every month, with the latest release of python-holidays.
- Stock exchange calendars: every month, with the latest release of exchange_calendars.
- Weather forecast: every 45 minutes for cities over 500,000 people, every 4 hours for the rest.
- The GeoLite2 database: every week.
